Victoria Tao
Victoria Tao makes work that explores the complex interplay between memories, personal narratives and the construction of self-identity based on memory-driven stories using the tourism industry as a focal point. With the advent of eco-tourism on the rise in popularity, she creates paintings and video to explore the relationship to local flora and fauna of places traversed with the theme of being ‘loved to death’. Her process uses this contrasting duality in tourism as an opportunity to create perceptions that lead to a more nuanced interpretation of experiences.
After receiving her bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan, Tao made her way to southern California to study illustration at the Art Center College of Design and earn her master’s degree in painting from Claremont Graduate University. She has been published in Studio Visit Magazine, LA weekly arts blog, Art Journals, and shows in art exhibitions, public spaces, and non-profits throughout the country.
